For more than 130 years the Bardavon Opera House has brought and
fostered the very finest performing arts to the Hudson Valley. The
oldest continuously operating theatre in New York State and among the
oldest in the nation, the Bardavon has long been considered the
cultural jewel of the region. . Artists who have performed in the
900-seat theater comprise a veritable who's who of the past century and
a half: Mark Twain, Sarah Bernhardt, the Barrymores, Edwin Booth, John
Philip Sousa, Paderewski, Burns and Allen, Dizzy Gillespie, Tommy
Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham. Since 1999, we
have been presenting and managing the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. The
Bardavon season embraces this history and revels in an electrifying
array of superb music, drama, dance, and film events.

Barrett Art Center/DCAA's goal is to offer a fully-dimensional art
experience for both artist and art appreciator. To achieve this, our
exhibition and educational programs are augmented with seminars,
workshops, special lectures, outreach and community events, services
for members, as well as bus trips to outstanding exhibitions at major
museums from Boston to New York City.

The center seeks to meet the artistic and educational needs of the
Hudson Valley by showcasing professional and community artists in
theater, music and the visual arts. It offers gallery exhibits,
educational programs, various performing art events, and tours of two
Victorian Italianate-style houses built by nephews of Matthew
Vassar. The arts center is located in two historically
significant and beautiful Victorian buildings that form the jewel of
the River District of Poughkeepsie and provide a variety of
performance, exhibition and office spaces, and a unique forum for the
fine and performing arts. 9 Vassar St. houses an art gallery and
offices; 12 Vassar St. offers art galleries, the Vassar Brothers
Institute Theatre, and a dance studio.
