Thanks in part to the City of Poughkeepsie Weed and Seed Initiative, a federally funded program, the Main Street corridor of the City has enjoyed some extra strategic attention for the past couple of years. Brand new store fronts, innovative business development, and bustling downtown activity tell the story of a major Hudson Valley City committed to fueling its economic recovery engine. The goal of the initiative is to weed out the negative elements that would create a barrier to economic growth, and seed the corridor with new sources of energy, proactively nurturing the development of assets. With continued support from the Mayor and the Police Department, the initiative will generate enough momentum to become self-sustaining so as to create infrastructures and programs beneficial to Poughkeepsie residents and entrepreneurs for generations to come.
